0800 – After the MAYDAY: The Gap We Don't Train For

In June of 2023, I was faced with one of the most critical moments a firefighter can encounter—I transmitted a MAYDAY during an acquired structure burn conducted in compliance with NFPA 1403. This class centers on what happened after the MAYDAY was transmitted—specifically, where and how I failed myself in the moments that followed, a gap seldom discussed in traditional MAYDAY training. This course is an honest and candid examination of that experience, with the goal of identifying a critical training gap and encouraging meaningful conversation about how we prepare firefighters for the realities of survival beyond the call itself.

Instructor: Captain Reagan Underwood, St. George, LA Fire Department

1030 – Topic: TBA

Instructor: Chief Dennis Reilly

1300 – Mobile Size-Up: Tactical Thinking for New Officers

Many newly promoted officers struggle with operational fluency and the pressure of fast, tactical decision-making under stress. This session introduces a practical framework that transforms everyday windshield time into active training opportunities—turning every ride into a "mobile mental rep." Using mnemonics like COAL WAS WEALTH and RECEO-VS, the course walks students through real-world visual size-ups, then trains officers to read advanced exterior cues to locate interior rooms and hazards before ever stepping foot inside.

Instructor: Kostic (Tallahassee)

1430–1600 – Simulation Drills & Tactical Conversations

Bring your own SIMs and tactical pre-arrival videos for group discussion — a bank of material is available if needed.
